AdventHealth Lenexa is a non-profit hospital campus under construction in Lenexa, Kansas for AdventHealth.

History

[edit]

On April 3, 2019, AdventHealth Shawnee Mission applied with Lenexa for a new 25-acre hospital campus.[1][2] In early July 2019, the Lenexa City Council approved the plan for the medical campus at Lenexa City Center.[3][4]

On February 17, 2021, it was announced that AdventHealth would be delaying the construction of its medical campus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4][5]

In early November 2021, plans for the hospital campus were reignited.[6] Copaken Brooks wanted to make the size of the AdventHealth medical campus smaller, which they agreed to do. AdventHealth Lenexa which had been planned to be eight stories and have 200-beds was changed to five stories and 98-beds. Also the height of the two medical office buildings changed and the campus went from thirteen buildings to eleven buildings.[7][8] The hospital campus will also have a helipad, parking garage, clinic, health club, hotel, retail building and mixed used buildings.[9]

In late June 2022, the Lenexa City Council approved the changes for the hospital campus. And gave AdventHealth permission to start building its hospital campus AdventHealth Lenexa City Center.[10][11]

On April 13, 2023, AdventHealth had a groundbreaking ceremony for AdventHealth Lenexa City Center. Its 244,000-square-foot hospital and its 56,000-square-foot medical office building are part of a first phase project. They will cost $247 million to build.[12][13][14] In late April 2023, the Lenexa City Council approved the AdventHealth Lenexa campus for tax incentives for being built in Lenexa City Center.[15]

On June 12, 2024, there was a topping out ceremony for the very first hospital in Lenexa, Kansas at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.[16][17]
