New Indian Model School, Dubai is one of the well reputed Indian Schools in UAE. It was established in 1980 and is located in Al Garhoud, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This is also known as N.I.Model School or NIMS Dubai. This school was the first endeavor and realization of the dream of its founder Al Haj (Dr.) M. K. Kamaluddin who has envisaged the establishment of an institution that offers affordable and most modern education to the Indian community. This school was inaugurated on 1st May 1980 by H.E. Rashid Abdulla Thaha, Deputy Minister of Education, in the presence of Hon. Late. C. H. Mohammed Koya, the then Chief Minister of Kerala and Mr. Muthu Venkataramanan, the Consul General of India. The school now caters to the educational needs of five thousand children. This was soon followed by a number of other educational institutions, one excelling the other, all of them distinguished for the excellent results they achieved.
Islamic environment
The presence of a good Islamic environment provided encouragement for a lot of students from the outside world to join the school. Arab students are rare, but a few came from migrant families during the 1990s. The breaks at school are designed in such a way as to complete the five daily prayers along with recess.
Multiple syllabuses
The school follows multiple syllabuses which include CBSE,[1] [2] Kerala State and Montessori. It has a good track record on results in public exams.[citation needed]
The main attraction for the South Indian students, especially from Kerala, is the teaching of Kerala and Malayalam syllabi. There were not many options for Keralite families to send their children elsewhere. The teaching of all the languages extends up to the tenth standard, after which the students have various language and syllabi to choose from.
Mosque
The students have the opportunity to learn the Qur'an during their studies. The imams present in the mosque are well versed in Qur'an recitation. Every day after asr[clarification needed] prayer there is a short talk in the mosque, encouraging the Muslim students to spend more time learning and preaching the religion. After the daily afternoon prayer there is a short reading from the books of Hadiths for boys.
Sports
The school has facilities for basketball, volleyball, cricket and football. The students perform well in inter-school volleyball tournaments. The school has a complete sports training program. The school has recently[when?] won the Inter-School Sports Championship trophy.
Shift timings
Due to overcrowding and sex, girls and boys are separated to different shifts after the third standard. Boys attend the afternoon shift while girls continue on the morning shift. In exceptional cases, few boys are allowed to study in the morning shift in 3rd Standard.
KHDA inspection report
The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) is an educational quality assurance authority based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It undertakes early learning, school and higher learning institution management and rates them as well.
