Alan Olav Walker (born 24 August 1997) is a Norwegian DJ and record producer, who was born in Northampton, England. He is best known for the electronic dance music single "Faded", which struck gold in international markets, receiving platinum certification in over 10 different countries.

Career

Early beginnings

Born in Northampton, Walker moved to Bergen in Hordaland,[1] with his Norwegian mother and English father at the age of two. Growing up in the digital era, Walker found an early interest in computers which later turned into a fascination for programming and graphic design. He initially had no musical background, however he later taught himself by browsing YouTube videos based on music production.[2] In 2012 he started making music on his laptop and his songs soon caught the attention of record labels.

2014 - "Fade"

Walker's song "Fade" gained attention after its release on YouTube via the label NoCopyrightSounds. It has become the most popular track in the channel, as well as one of the most used background music on YouTube. The track was later included in NoCopyrightSounds' album NCS: Uplifting. The tracks "Spectre" and "Force" followed in 2015.

2015 - "Faded"

Walker signed with MER Musikk under Sony Music Sweden and his next single, "Faded", was a remastered vocal version of "Fade". It was released 3 December and featured uncredited female vocalist Iselin Solheim.[3] The song topped the Norwegian VG-lista singles chart and the Swedish Sverigetopplistan charts, iTunes charts in 32 countries, as well as entering top 10 in Spotify Global Chart. It was a hit in Finland, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, several countries in Europe and Asia.[4] The music video on YouTube has over 700 million views and 4 million likes, placing it among the top 30 most liked YouTube videos. The single received an official remix from Tiesto.

2016–present - "Sing Me To Sleep"

Walker's new single "Sing Me To Sleep" was released on 3 June, featuring Iselin Solheim, the same vocalist in "Faded". The song topped iTunes charts in 7 countries, it has over 94 million streams on Spotify. The music video on YouTube has over 100 million views.[5]
