Ansarul Sharia (Pakistan) (ASP)

The Ansarul Sharia (Pakistan) terrorist group was based out of Karachi, Pakistan. The group has been known for committing many attacks, at one point the group was known for performing attacks on a weekly basis. The group claimed, through their twitter page, that they recruited members from South Punjab, Balochistan, and Waziristan. The group has claimed to have ties to Al Queda. From information taken from a foundation document, the group has gathered members from mujahideen from Karachi, the tribal areas of Mastung,and the Punjab.[1]

History

The terrorist group was founded in February of 2017 and originates from Punjab Pakistan. The leaders of the group are claimed to have derived their ideology and tactical methodologies from the terrorist Bin Laden of the organization known as Al Queda. They do not fallow the Islamic State. Members of the group allegedly fought for the Islamic State Khurasan in the region, but the Islamic State Khurasan's brutal tactics drove the group off to creating their own group. The mujahideen associated with the group were unimpressed with the group's efforts and and decided to branch off from the Ansarul Sharia (Pakistan) group and create their own splinter group.

The group consist of ten to ten young men who attended various universities of Karachi. The group has been known to communicate using a smartphone app and were known to be wearing medallions that held small memory card and carried important information about the group. The Ansarul Sharia terrorist organization is known for radicalizing students student from the University of Karachi. Law enforcers have claimed that the group receives a list of targeted killing task from abroad.

Eight members of the group were killed during a Counter Terrorism Department encounter. The encounter claimed the life of the groups leader Chief Sheheryar who goes by the alias Dr. Abdullah Hashmi. Another identified from the dead was Arsalan Baig who was known for his activity in the groups targeted killings.After this attack, the Al Queda inspired militant group comprised of hardly ten people had be brought down with all of their members either dead or in custody for interrogation. This fact had been disputed by some.

Leadership

The leader of Ansarul Shariah (Pakistan) was Chief Sheheryar who went by the alias of Dr. Abdullah Hashmi, he received his master's degree in applied physics from the university of Karachi.[2] He worked as an information technology expert for the computer department of NED University.

Abdullah Hashimi was claimed to have been arrested in September of 2017. The police were hesitant to confirm or deny the news on various television channels Abdul Karim Sarosh Siddiqui is claimed to have been the mastermind behind the attacks on Khwaja Izhar. He was a student of applied physics at Karachi University in Karachi, Pakistan. Abdul Karim Sarosh Siddiqui was suspected of being close friends with the suspected militant Hassan who died during the attemped assassination of Izharul Hassan.

Hassan was the leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly. This opposition lead to the creation of new record keeping laws in order to track terrorist activity in Karachi.

Claimed Attacks

  1. In Karachi, Pakistan the Ansarul Sharia (Pakistan) militant terrorist group claimed responsibility for killing of retired colonel Tahir Zia Nagi around the Baloch Colony area.[3]
  2. The organization attempted an assassination on Khwaja Izharul Hassan, the Pakistan politician who was leading to opposition to the group. During this attack the organization was sloppy and the Taimuria police were able to chase down and identify one of the attackers. This eventually lead to the downfall of the Ansarul Sharia (Pakistan) terrorist organization.
  3. The group has claimed responsibility for the killing of a security guard in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
  4. The terrorist organization used motorcycles to shoot dead four police officers in Karachi, Pakistan.[4] The attackers left the scene without confrontation. The group left behind pamphlets that lead police to finding that Ansarul Sharia (Pakisatn) was behind the shooting. The pamphlets stated a new terrorist operation targeted at security forces in the area and claimed responsibility for the attacks.[5]

Culpability for Attacks

  1. The group was tied to the attack of two New Town policemen.
  2. Ansarul Sharia (Pakistan) is suspected of being responsible for the killing of DSP Traffic and his constable driver in Azizabad.
  3. The terrorist organization has been tied to the murder of two employees of the Federal Board of Revenue in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. The employees were sought out because the group suspected them of being policemen.
  4. The group was accused of being responsible for the murder of Qaumi Razakar a police officer who was on the Northern Bypass.
