Ideally school articles should be using {{Infobox school}} so that Wikipedia uses consistent style and layouts, so I tried to make it closer to the formatting of that. The only reason I didn't convert it to the infobox template was because there aren't enough optional fields in it to accomodate all of the non-standard information currently in the table.

The cleanup that didn't change the layout was definitely necessary. What of the layout changes do you really object to? I'm not really invested in any particular layout, I just do think that we should be using whatever is the standard layout for school articles. — Saxifrage ✎ 22:42, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

I just feel that every school is different and that creativity should be used. I just think that it looks better the way I had it. If you look at the Louisiana IceGators site you will see where I got the idea and actually that is the way I like it. The thing is that Potomac Senior High School isn't a site exactly, it's one page in an encyclopedia. Since Wikipedia is going to be in print some day, we need to stick to a consistent editorial style so that the whole of Wikipedia looks good.

The Louisiana IceGators article isn't really a good model, because they're a hockey team and this is a school. The only reason that page is using a custom table is because there isn't an infobox template for ECHL teams. If you look at the Montreal Canadiens article, you'll see that it's using the standard {{NHL Team Infobox}} to make sure it looks like all the other NHL team articles. — Saxifrage ✎ 23:03, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Which template did you use? Looking at the source I can see that it's all HTML table formatting, and I don't know of any Wikipedia template that would insert that. — Saxifrage ✎ 01:02, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

I used the same template that is used on most of the other school sites. Like Woodbridge High School or Garfield High School. I just changed the colors.

Ah, I see. Those aren't templates. I was talking about {{infobox school}}, which looks like the box at right and is inserted with the code below. Also, both those tables were created by a new user who is not yet familiar with Wikipedia formatting and will have to be changed.

Uploading pictures

I want to upload pictures for my site and I understand the link part but I do not understand the Licensing tag part can you help me so I do not loose my account.

First you have to know where the image comes from and the status of its copyright. If you don't know that, it can't be uploaded. If you do know that, then you can choose the most appropriate license at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. When uploading the image, you would include the associated tag in {{name-of-tag-goes-here}} format, including the curly braces.

And don't worry about your account in this regard. The worst that would happen if you uploaded an image that Wikipedia can't use for copyright purposes is that the image would be deleted, or (if you did not say what the image's license was when it was uploaded) you might get an automated message on your Talk page asking you to provide license information for the image. — Saxifrage ✎ 11:11, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Great page! Really looking great. Unfortunately, Wikipedia does not allow colors to be inserted into the borders, just because the feature would be overused and end up looking like a MySpace page. You may use different colors in the text, but I would refrain from using this, just for a more professional look for the page. However, a mention of the school colors would be satisfactory I'm sure. State Champions

The State Champions section is for team state champions and not individual state champions. That is why I removed the information. John R G 06:26, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

How insulting. How is an individual state champion any less than a team? Tony Thomas should definitely stay in the State Champions.

No single editor has the authority to determine what should and shouldn't be in the article. Without any good reason to not include it, I've re-added it to the article in a separate subsection for individual champions. Note that references are missing for both the teams and Tony Thomas, which means that they all would eventually need to be removed if no source for the information can be found. — Saxifrage ✎ 20:48, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

PWCS vs. PWC

I have replaced the infobox district line for the same reason Saxifrage restored information as he described above: Without a substantial reason for removing, information should be retained.

Moreover, other PWCS schools do cite the district, so for the sake of encyclopedic consistency, it should remain.

The Prince William County Public Schools is governed by a school board separately elected from the Prince William County governmental board of supervisors. (Anyone involved in the budget process can tell you that these are two totally separate groups!) The School Division is the body licensed, endorsed, and accredited, not the County itself, so it is a misnomer to say that the "county runs the schools" without a school district. In truth, PWCS is formally a "school division" sanctioned by the Commonwealth Department of Education.

Street Name

This is a great example of encyclopedic versus nonencyclopedic contribution. A couple times now, anonymous editors have changed the street name of Four Year Trail to Panther Pride Drive, but no one had provided citations for this official change. I have added a link to a record of the PWCS school board stating the vote and rationale for this official change, which is now reflected on the Potomac website.

Thanks for providing the link. I reverted one of the anon IP edits because a check of the school in the directory still lists the old street name. So - the anon was right but without the link this was hard to determine.

Just to add to the confusion, the old name still appears at the bottom of the school's web page while the new name appears at the top. Euryalus 01:10, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
