Career

[edit]

Ashwath made his directorial debut with the film Oh My Kadavule in 2020.[2] Oh My Kadavule, which starred Ashok Selvan and Rithika Singh, received praise for its innovative storyline.[3] The film's success made Ashwath adapt it into Telugu as Ori Devuda.[4]

In 2024, Ashwath announced his next film with director-actor Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead, titled Dragon.[5] Ashwath and Pradeep share a longstanding friendship spanning over a decade.[2] Dragon was released in 2025 to critical acclaim, and went on to become the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year. Ashwath's third Tamil film starring Silambarasan is currently in production.[6]

Filmmaking style

[edit]

Ashwath considers Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life (1946) to be one of his most influential films, and attempts to emulate the film's inspirational theme across all his films.[7]
