Kingdom 2: Far and Away (Japanese: キングダム2 遥かなる大地へ, Hepburn: Kingudamu 2 Harukanaru Daichi e) is a 2022 Japanese historical war film directed by Shinsuke Sato. An adaptation of the manga of the same name by Yasuhisa Hara, the film is the sequel to Kingdom (2019). The film stars Kento Yamazaki, Ryo Yoshizawa, and Kanna Hashimoto.[1]

By the end of 2022, Kingdom 2 had earned ¥5.16 billion (equivalent to US$47,015,945), making it the highest-grossing Japanese live-action film of that year.[2] Two sequels have been released: Kingdom 3: The Flame of Destiny (2023) and Kingdom 4: Return of the Great General (2024).

Plot

[edit]

Six months after the recapture of the capital, King Ying Zheng of Qin survives an assassination attempt with the help of Xin. Around the same time, Qin faces an assault from the neighboring country Wei's army, led by Wu Qing, one of the Seven Masters of Wei Fire Dragon. In response, General Bai Gong leads Qin's army to the Hegan Plains, where Xin and the 4th Division, joined by Qiang Lei, fight valiantly despite heavy losses.

After a daring counterattack supported by Commander Shibaku Toushin, they defeat Wei’s Vice-General Miyamoto. The arrival of Wang Qi, one of Qin’s legendary Six Great Generals, inspires Xin with valuable lessons on leadership. Meanwhile, Bai Gong defeats Wu Qing in single combat, which forces Wei's retreat.

After the battle, Qiang Lei (Kyou Kai) departs to avenge her sister. It is later revealed that the assassination attempt on Ying Zheng was orchestrated by the right prime minister, Lu Buwei. Seeking to grow stronger, Xin trains under Wang Qi's mentorship. The film concludes with Xin being promoted to the rank of centurion by King Ying Zheng.
