Altaf Tadavi (born 30 August 1999), known professionally as MC Stan (stylized as MC STΔN), is an Indian rapper, lyricist, music producer, and composer.[1][2][3]
Early life
[edit]Altaf Tadavi was born on 30 August, 1999, in Pune, Maharashtra.[4] He grew up in a modest background and discovered his passion for music during his teenage years. Stan initially explored qawwali before transitioning to rap and hip-hop, inspired by global rap icons and the growing Indian hip-hop movement.[5]
Career
[edit]MC Stan gained prominence in 2018 with his breakout track "Wata" that resonated with audiences for its raw lyrics and street-inspired themes.[6] Known for blending Hindi, Marathi, and street slang, his music often explores societal issues, personal struggles, and commentary on modern life in India.[7]
His debut album Tadipaar (2020) established him as a significant figure in Indian hip-hop.[5] Tadavi followed up with Insaan (2022), which was critically acclaimed for its experimental beats and introspective lyrics.[4][8][9]
On 16 March 2024, MC Stan's YouTube channel was hacked, causing significant stress for him and his manager.[10]
Bigg Boss 16
[edit]In 2022–2023, MC Stan participated in the Hindi reality television show Bigg Boss 16 and emerged as a winner.[11]
International Collabs
[edit]MC Stan appeared on the Times Square billboard in New York City for his collaboration with American musician Kshmr on Haath Varthi.[12] The track quickly gained popularity, trending at No. 1 in India and six other countries, amassing over 10 million YouTube views within three days.[13]
Bollywood
[edit]MC Stan has also contributed to Hindi movies including Baby John (2024) and the title track in the movie Farrey in 2023. [14][15]
Albums
[edit]Reception
[edit]On 17 March 2023, MC Stan's concert in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, was disrupted and cancelled midway by members of the religious organisation Karni Sena, who accused him of using foul language in his songs and spreading obscenity among youngsters.[18] The incident occurred at a hotel in the Lasudia area, where protesters took to the stage after the rapper left. Video clips of the disruption surfaced on social media, and the police reportedly used mild force to disperse the protesters. Karni Sena's district president, Anurag Pratap Singh Raghav, claimed they forced the rapper to leave the venue.[19]
