Disambiguation
[edit]Why is this page listed as a disambiguation page? It seems as if the only things that it talks about are essentially the same topic. Would anyone object if I changed it? --Apyule 01:52, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Centralized TV Episode Discussion
[edit]Over the past months, TV episodes have been redirected by (to name a couple) TTN, Eusebeus and others. No centralized discussion has taken place, so I'm asking everyone who has been involved in this issue to voice their opinions here in this centralized spot, be they pro or con. Discussion is here [1]. Even if you have not, other opinions are needed because this issue is affecting all TV episodes in Wikipedia, including this one. --Maniwar (talk) 03:54, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
M*A*S*H or MASH?
[edit]M*A*S*H - is just the name of the series. Media franchise is supposed to be MASH as it is the name of the hospital, book, film, etc... --Eugrus (talk) 12:32, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- The problem with using MASH instead of M*A*S*H, is that MASH is a well known acronym for any Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. Someone a little more experienced than I, should attempt to clear up the vagueness on this matter. YoungWebProgrammer msg 11:29, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- M*A*S*H should be about the television program WikiDon (talk) 20:09, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- What is about using MASH №4077 for the title? --eugrus (talk) 21:19, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- "№" is not an acceptable character. ~ WikiDon (talk) 21:41, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
One of the things that the article doesn't address is the whole 'star' thing. Why is it M*A*S*H and not M.A.S.H.? Mrstonky (talk) 20:20, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Because there really is no difference between M.A.S.H. and M*A*S*H. The latter is something that Hollyweird likes to do with abbreviations and the former would be standard abbreviation. With the way things are with miltary now, it would simply be MASH. If you look up AfterMASH, you'll notice no punctuation marks... User:Aneah 21:42, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

2012 movie?!?
[edit]I've got no info ATM, except this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1435537/ 68.45.150.250 (talk) 09:47, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
I doubt it, if it you trust IMDB upcoming project then they'd be making a Cheers movie aswell... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.23.151.63 (talk) 22:47, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- Why use falsehoods when stating your opinion? There is no IMDB reference to an upcoming Cheers project. Dlabtot (talk) 16:15, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

- M*A*S*H → MASH
- M*A*S*H (TV series) → MASH (TV series)
- M*A*S*H (novels) → MASH (novel series)
- Portal:M*A*S*H → Portal:MASH
- List of M*A*S*H characters → List of MASH characters
- List of M*A*S*H guest stars → List of MASH guest stars
- M*A*S*H Goes to Maine → MASH Goes to Maine
- M*A*S*H Mania → MASH Mania
– This is a tricky one, and I'm sure the belovedness of this series has contributed to these titles being out of compliance with MOS:TM. "Avoid using special characters that are not pronounced, are included purely for decoration" is the most relevant part of that guideline. You'll notice MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors and MASH (film) are already correctly titled. I suspect that the franchise will continue to be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the MASH capitalization.
I'm really not sure what to do about W*A*L*T*E*R. Walter (TV series)? If these moves are carried out, I'll follow up on the individual episodes that will need their disambiguators updated, as well as the categories. BDD (talk) 16:41, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
- Support – though I wish BDD has made the case better. Per MOS:TM, one needs evidence that these stylings are in use, not invented (where it says, "When deciding how to format a trademark, editors should choose among styles already in use by sources (not invent new ones) and choose the style that most closely resembles standard English, regardless of the preference of the trademark owner."). I checked the last two, and found that that's how the titles are listed at Amazon, among places, so they are definitely in use, not a WP invention. So seems OK. Dicklyon (talk) 05:21, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. Nothing wrong with using the actual title. And yes Amazon uses M*A*S*H,[2][3] but also has some titled without the *'s.[4] I take it the *'s were put in later and were not in the original novel. Apteva (talk) 05:34, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose MASH is a a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. The show even shows several different MASH units. Therefore "MASH" and "Portal:MASH" are bad names. MASH (franchise) and Portal:MASH (franchise) should be used instead. As well, the contention between the franchise, novels, film, and TV series means they should be disambiguated. Further MASH doesn't even redirect to M*A*S*H. -- 70.24.250.103 (talk) 05:59, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. The most common usage in reliable sources[5] is with asterisks. The title(s) should reflect most common use. They currently do. These proposed moves would break that. --B2C 17:45, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
