Finchley
[edit]Can anyone tell me where abouts in Finchley Oliver Tambo lived before he moved to Muswell Hill in London. We know the road and the rough location but not the exact address. The house will still be there - and I want to photograph it. Is it possible that someone might have a letter, or other document, or remembers the address. I have spoken with Patsy Pillay (see the British newspaper The Independent (15th October 2007) who spoke of the Finchley connection but it is too long ago for her to be sure of the number. Thank you : ) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hugh Petrie (talk • contribs) 11:06, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
OR Tambo International
[edit]The Ekurhuleni Council of the East Rand, and the Government are trying to rename Johannesburg International after Oliver Tambo. This has caused a large uproar in the community.
The following places have already been renamed after him:
On the East Rand (Ekurhuleni) there is the Oliver Tambo Cultural Village, Tamboville.
And the Oliver Tambo Memorial Hospital
And Oliver Tambo Drive in Mokopane (Potgietersrus)
And Oliver Tambo Drive in Modimolle (Nylstroom)
And Oliver Tambo Avenue, Manemberg, Cape Town
And Oliver Tambo Drive in Joe Slovo (yes, he has his own suburb), Cape Town
And Oliver Tambo Drive in Pellsrus, Jefferys Bay
And Oliver Tambo Drive in Rustenburg
And Oliver Tambo Drive in Weltevreden
And Oliver Tambo Drive in The Leauges, Cape Town
And Oliver Tambo Street, Hospital View, Johannesburg
And Oliver Tambo Street, Kagiso Ext2, Jhb
And Oliver Tambo Street, Kwanomzamo, Humansdorp
And Oliver Tambo Street, Parkridge, East London
And Oliver Tambo Street, Tsakane, Jhb
And Oliver Tambo Drive in Seshego, Polokwane
And Oliver Tambo Street, Mohlakeng, West Rand
(I've used my GPS software to find this, and since its outdated (refers to Polokwane as Pietersburg) I suspect many more "Oliver Tambo" roads)
And the Oliver Tambo District (where you can find the easy-to-remember King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality) in the Eastern Cape
- and? are you saying you want to include this in the article? not sure if any of this really merits a mention.
or are you trying to make some sort of politcal comment? --Andy-106 15:21, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Early Life
[edit]The section entitled Early Life contains the following: "In 1977 Tambo signed the first solidarity agreement between ANC and a Municipality, the relationship starts a relevant strength of the struggle against apartheid. The Italian town of Reggio nell'Emilia was the first city in the world to sign a pact of solidarity." Since 1977 was not his "early life" I propose that this should be moved elsewhere, such as an Honours & Achievements section. Furthermore it does not even appear in the right chronological sequence and interupts the flow of the sentence preceding and following this statement. 92.29.33.79 (talk) 16:37, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Review within the Wikipedia Primary School project
[edit]Hi all. As anticipated, some weeks ago Dr. Steven Friedman (Centre for the Study of Democracy, Rhodes University and University of Johannesburg) agreed to review this article within the scope of the project linked above. You can find his notes in the PDF I just uploaded to Commons. We'd like to thank Dr. Friedman for his work and for his helpful notes. We invite everybody to feel free to reuse the review to improve the article and/or to comment it here. Best, --Elitre (WPS) (talk) 10:05, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
- Just bear in mind that neither Steven Friedman nor the Centre for the Study of Democracy can count as neutral/objective sources on Oliver Tambo. If they provide primary, verifiable sources it's of course OK. --197.228.38.223 (talk) 15:41, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
Soshanguve in Johannesburg
[edit]In the "Honours" section of this article, where it is stated that the Johannesburg International Airport would be renamed after him, it is written: "city of Inthokozo in the heart of Soshanguve in Johannesburg, then former capital of South Africa, before Pretoria became the capital city."
This statement brings up issues. For starters, there is only one place named Soshanguve and it is in the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality (north of Pretoria). There is no place within the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality or any other part of Gauteng that is named Soshanguve! Next, I do not think that Johannesburg has ever been the "capital of a nation". Next, I've attempted an online search and there is no city named Inthokozo. Also, the entire paragraph does not have a citation present.
Let us find a way to remove the exact words I have put in italics above without removing the saying that Thabo Mbeki was not in support of the renaming. GeographicAccountant (talk) 01:49, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
