Vivian Dsena (born 28 June 1988) is an Indian actor and a former model who predominantly works in Hindi television. Dsena is considered as one of the most popular Hindi television actors in India. He is a recipient of several accolades including two Indian television Academy award, two Gold award and Asian viewers television awards.[1]

Dsena made his acting debut with television series Kasamh Se in 2008.[2] He later received wider reach for his portrayal of Abhay Raichand in Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani (2010–2011). He established himself as a successful leading actor by playing Rishabh Kundra, the superstar in Madhubala-Ek Ishq Ek junoon (2012-2014) and Harman Singh in Shakti- Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki (2016-2019). He also participated in reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaja 8 (2015), Khatron Ke khiladi 7 (2016) and Bigg Boss season 18 (2024).

Early life and family

Dsena was born on 28 June 1988[3][4] in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India.[5] His mother is Hindu, while his father is a Christian.[3] Through his father, his grandfather was Portuguese while his grandmother was of British descent.[6]

In an interview he stated that his mother was an athlete and his father a footballer, leading to his passion for football since the age of 10; Dsena is himself a national-level football player.[7] He is a fan of the football player Lionel Messi.[8]

He passed the Madhya Pradesh State-Level Engineering Entrance Exam and initially pursued engineering.[9]

Career

2007-2008: Early modelling days and acting debut

Vivian's Career started With a call From Gladrags Manhunt and Megamodel Contest.[1] He Came to Mumbai from Ujjain to be a model. he was among the top 10 finalist, in Gladrags Manhunt contest in 2007 and later walked the ramp for designers like Vikram phadnis.[2] Dsena made his television debut in 2008 with Zee TV's Kasamh Se by playing the role of Vicky jai Walia. This was followed by his next project Agnipareeksha Jeevan Ki – Gangaa which was aired on Colors TV where he played the role of Shivam. Later in 2010, he played a double role in Star One TV's supernatural romance Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani as Abhay Raichand and Abhayendra Singh opposite Sukirti Kandpal. The show was the first youth centric supernatural series in India,[10] inspired by The Vampire Diaries[11] and Twilight Saga. The show aired its last episode on 15 December 2011[12] and established him with fame and recognition.[13] "Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani", gained significant popularity in India. It was a super success, with fans fondly remembering the show and its lead actors Vivian dsena and Sukirti Kandpal.[3] The show was even considered a fan favorite and many viewers have expressed a desire for a sequel. In 2012, he played triple role in Colors TV's Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon as Rishabh Kundra, Keval Ram Kushwaha and Raja Kushwaha opposite Drashti Dhami.[14][15] The performance of Dsena was well received, for which he received numerous accolades and nominations including the ITA Award for Performer of the Year, Gold Award for Best Actor in a Lead Role and AVTA for Best Personality of the Year.[16] The Indian soap opera "Madhubala- Ek Ishq Ek Junoon" gained considerable international popularity, having been broadcast in over 50 countries. The show was particularly successful in regions with large South Asian diaspora populations, and its popularity led to its localization in various languages and adaptations in other countries.[5] Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon" achieved notable TRP success, reaching a peak of 4.5 in a particular week. It also garnered critical acclaim for its story, performances, and overall quality, with some viewers citing it as a must-watch. The show was a popular choice, particularly for its lead actors and the engaging chemistry they portrayed. [6]

In 2015, Dsena participated in Colors TV's popular dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 8 and finished at 10th place.[17] In 2016, he again participated in the Colors TV's popular stunt-based reality TV show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7, which was filmed in Argentina and he ended up becoming finalist.[18]

2016–present: Established actor

From 2016 to 2019, Dsena portrayed Harman Singh, in Colors TV's long-running popular show Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki for which he was awarded a Gold Award for Best Actor (Critics) and ITA Award for Best Actor in a Drama - Popular.[19] "Shakti Astitva ke ehsaas ki" achieved a strong viewership and was considered a successful show on Indian television. The show's story revolved around the transgender love story of Saumya (played by Rubina Dilaik) and Harman, and it garnered a large fan base. [7] The show successfully completed 500 and 700 episodes, with both Rubina Dilaik and Vivian Dsena expressing gratitude to the fans for their love and support. [8] Vivian Dsena exited the show in 2019, citing his preference for not playing a father to a grown-up actor. [9]

[20]From 2021 to 2022, Dsena portrayed the role of Ranveer Oberoi, on Colors TV's romantic drama Sirf Tum opposite Eisha Singh.[21][22] It was considered a success, with 232 episodes.[23] In 2023, he made a brief appearance in Udaariyaan as Dr. Sartaj Singh Randhawa.Vivian Dsena’s entry made a significant impact on the show’s viewership and TRP ratings.On his departure, a farewell party was organized on the sets. The heartwarming celebration was filled with emotions as the cast and crew came together to bid farewell to the talented actor.[10]

In 2024, Dsena entered as a contestant in the fourteenth season of Bigg Boss, the Indian version of the reality TV show Big Brother. He stayed in the house for 105 days and emerged as the 1st runners up. He was last seen as a guest in Laughter Chefs for Holi special episode with Rubina Dilaik.[24]

Dsena has been ranked in the Eastern Eye's 50 Sexiest Asian Men since 2015.[25] He ranked 5th spot in 2015, 7th in 2016, 4th in 2017, 2nd in 2018.[26] In 2019 and 2021 he ranked 3rd in both years.[27]

He has also been a part of the All Star Football Club, a celebrity football club that raises funds for charity.[28] Dsena was seen playing football with other celebrities in the All Stars Footy League 2023.[29]

Dsena is also a director in the company SHYAMAA NATURAL FARMS PRIVATE LIMITED.[11]

Vivian Dsena is the brand ambassador for UFC GYM Bahrain. He was named as an international brand ambassador for the fitness brand in July 2024. [12]

In 2017, his fans wrote him 800 letters, in a paper 232-metres long, for which they made a record. The record was of the longest mail in price category for which 420 euros were collected.[13]

During his bigg Boss 18 journey his fans, have set records on social media, including reaching 1 million tweets for the hashtag "Janta Ka Ladla Vivian" on Bigg Boss 18. Additionally, a Twitter Space hosted by Vivian drew over 525,000 listeners, a record for the platform, showcasing his popularity. [14]

Vivian was featured on a billboard in Times Square, New York City during bigg Boss . This was a major milestone for the actor. [15]

Vivian Dsena is reportedly earning Rs 5 lakh per week on Bigg Boss 18, making him one of the highest-paid contestants on the show. His popularity and long-standing career in the entertainment industry contribute to his impressive earnings on the reality show.[16]

During bigg Boss 18 visit as a guest Triptii Dimri has publicly expressed that she's a fan of Vivian Dsena's work, stating she's "grown up watching" his shows.[17]

Reem Shaikh has revealed in interviews that her celebrity crush is Vivian Dsena. She has expressed this crush publicly, including in interviews with Filmygyan.[18]

Personal life

In 2013, Dsena married his Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani co-star Vahbiz Dorabjee but the couple filed for divorce in 2016.[30][31][32] The divorce was finalized in 2021.[33]

In 2022, Dsena married Nouran Aly, an Egyptian journalist. They have a daughter together. Dsena converted to Islam in 2019 and is a practicing Muslim.[34][35] Before his conversion to Islam, he was a Christian.[36]

Dsena often gets criticized, especially after his divorce from his first wife, which led to many negative rumors spreading about him. Even to this day, he continues to face criticism.[37]
