Steve Bartman Part II

[edit]

The article makes no mention of the fan interference being compared to the incidents of Jeffrey Maier or Steve Bartman, the latter of which was alluded to the most on social media. I have found a trio of articles from New York Post, Sporting News and MLB itself pointing out the incidents, and I feel that this bit of information needs to be mentioned in the Game 1 portion of the article. Uh MLB.com says Another Jeffrey Maier situation, this was not... That is correct and why it shouldn't be in our prose. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:49, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Euphemism on Soto's game-tying home run

[edit]

Hello. When Juan Soto hit a solo home run off Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the third inning to tie the game in Game 2, I said that he "answered back" after Tommy Edman hit a solo home run an inning earlier. Why that shouldn't be said in an article if you think that euphemisms in the scoring details shouldn't be allowed? For this case: the player hit a game-tying or go-ahead home run after the other team scored in an inning earlier or two. --Allen (talk / ctrb) 01:15, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is an encyclopedia not the sports section.. no need for euphemisms. Spanneraol (talk) 02:07, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Betts fan interference - Game 4

[edit]

There are numerous articles and posts about this - it should be mentioned, no? Tidewater 2014 (talk) 16:18, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No, in my opinion. It had no impact on the game, as opposed to the Jeffrey Maier and Steve Bartman incidents. This will be forgotten shortly. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:52, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It did have impact though - it was called an out and not a foul ball. I understand not wanting to give recognition for a despicable act, but it was a unique occurrence in how they pulled the ball out and grabbed his arm. As a long-time baseball fan, I've never seen anything like it. People coming to this article would find it of interest. The New York Post described it as an ugly scene. Yankees fans claw at Mookie Betts in bizarre fan interference scene
The New York Times puts it on a list with the most significant fan interference plays here: Top notable fan interference plays in MLB history: From Steve Bartman to Mookie Betts - The Athletic
Just type "Betts fan interference" into any search engine and you'll see all the hits. I'd suggest a brief mention with the above citations after the first sentence of the second paragraph in the Game 4 section. Something like this: "There was more fan interference in the bottom of the first when Mookie Betts made a catch on a foul ball." Tidewater 2014 (talk) 20:41, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I get it, but the interference didn't really have anything to do with the outcome of the game so it doesnt really belong there.. unfortunately these articles don't really have a place to write about other stuff that happened in context.. likewise the Ohtani injury I don't feel belongs in the Game 2 description either.. not sure where to place them but the game bits dont feel like the right place to me. Spanneraol (talk) 21:05, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I get that putting it there is not ideal - not sure if there is any perfect solution. My thought was that a brief mention in that spot doesn't take too much attention away from the game bits, as it's buried in the paragraph. I suppose incidents like this could have their own paragraph elsewhere, but that might give them more attention than they deserve. I'll guess that someone visiting this article years later might remember this incident, even though it was not of major significance to the game's outcome. It was a foul out, so technically it was a play in the game, though I see how under normal circumstances it wouldn't deserve a mention. Tidewater 2014 (talk) 21:33, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was an out, though. Mookie caught it and then those two chuckleheads wrestled it from him. The umpire rightly called Gleyber out, and the only impact the play had, since Mookie was fortunately not hurt, was the two chuckleheads being banned from attending Game 5. WP:GHITS is not a reason to keep an article from deletion, and I believe that logic can be applied within articles as well. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:04, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
